Dr. Bhalla is currently the executive director for India at the International Monetary Fund (“IMF”). Prior to his current role, he has worked as a proprietary trader/strategist/portfolio manager at the World Bank, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank and Oxus Investments. Since 1999, Dr. Bhalla has also been on the governing board of National Council of Applied Economic Research. He was also appointed as a member of the newly formed Economic Advisory Council to the second Modi ministry. He obtained his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1969, his M.P.A. in 1972 from the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University in 1976
